It was the smell of rain that I missed the most and the sound of a lawnmower and the waft of cut grass. It was being out in the open and standing bare foot! Blue skies part and parcel of it all; the thunder that would blast over and leave—the coming of a tropical sundown, an evening of barbecues, of warm pools, beer splattering on concrete. The bed awaiting, a vest, a body glistening from perspiration and a sleep of pillows constantly changing sides, a mosquito in the ear. Sleepless nights that were all you knew. And then, one day I left it behind. I moved to a city, to grim faced pallid movements, and there I became with them a ghost on the sidewalks. Dimly, ambling along with my face down, watching my steps and hurrying towards my quotidian activities.
Winters I spent indoor in solace. My flat mates—the friends I had—worked day and night. They were accustomed to leaving the soul behind, the need for money was so official. I would spend nights in the strange house, with creaks of a wall I did not know, and sit by the phone that our landlord had locked, and think of conversations of the past, of my mother's voice ringing, of my best friend whom I would lose contact with, and I would write letters, letters I would never send, letters that clutched the truth—that only I knew. I would cry, tears staining the ink, a smudged idea of love. I was temping then, doing mindless data entry, tapping words into a computer, and moving on wondering what worth there was, and how to find it. My flat mates would come home just before midnight—Mark and Craig, my two best friends. I would smile inwardly and outwardly and make them tea, a sandwich, sit with them and live their lives, hear their stories, flourish in company. Sleep would be eschewed, I yearned for comfort, and company eased the etching of loneliness.

Strictly speaking, I never took a sentence as my proverb until I heard the classic words in <<Forrest Gump>> that “Life is a box of chocolate, you never know what gonna get.” Although it is not profound enough, it does change my life by giving me hope, it does inspire me by showing me various possibilities or consequences.
I still remember the astonishment when I went though our college gate. This old, sherry school would be my campus where I would spend my golden years. I lay on my bed thinking of my college life. To be honest, I totally couldn’t accept the disparity between the reality and my dreaming university. At that time, I felt my whole world was gray. Certainly, I did nothing meaningful in my first year.
Occasionally, I heard the sentence from my friend’s letter answering my endless complain. He draw a delicate card writing “Life is a box of chocolate, you never know what gonna get.” Initially, I paid little attention to that, but I did remember it. At the same time, I realized that something changed inside me. After I had watched the movie <<Forrest Gump>>, changes became clear. Having heard this sentence again, it severely shocked me. Gump’s mother was not somebody important. However, she never despaired though she encountered many difficulties. She strongly believed that life is not so bad, and there is still hope. I really convinced she not only told Gump, but also said to me “Life is a box of chocolate…”
For quite a long time, I kept turning it over in my mind. How could I so sure I would get a bitter chocolate at the very beginning of my college life! How could I deny myself without trying best! How could I ignore the various possibilities of my magic world! How could I give up myself just because of disparity of reality! How could I!

I am Chinese. I am proud of being a Chinese with five thousand years of civilization behind. I've learned about the four great inventions made by our forefathers. I've learned about the Great Wall and the Yangtze River. I've learned about Zhang Heng(张衡)and I've learned about Zheng He(郑和)．Who says the Yellow River Civilization has vanished(消失)？I know that my ancestors have made miracles(奇迹)on this fertile land and we're still making miracles. Who can ignore the fact that we have established ourselves as a great state in the world, that we have devised our own nuclear weapons, that we have successfully sent our satellites into space, and that our GNP ranks No. 7 in the world? We have experienced the plunders (掠夺) by other nations, and we have experienced the war. Yet, based on such ruins, there still stands our nation----China, unyielding and unconquerable!

I was born in Beijing and live in Beijing, and I love Beijing very much. When I heard that Beijing will have a chance to hold the 2008 Olympic Games I feel very happy and excited, and I hope I can do something useful to build Beijing into a beautiful and energetic city.
In the twenty-first century, environment is becoming more and more important, so we have "Green Olympic" as a slogan. Of course slogan is just a goal, the most important thing is we should do some things to make it true. Such as assort the trash, save the energy and so on. We are still students now, so we can’t do anything really big. But if everybody does something good for our environment we could make Beijing more beautiful.
